Fundación Multitudes is part of the UNCAC Coalition: First and only member organization based in Chile

Fundación Multitudes

This month, February 2022, Fundación Multitudes, through the Member in the Spotlight initiative, has been recognized by the United Nations Convention Against Corruption Coalition (UNCAC Coalition) as a featured member.

The UNCAC Coalition is a global network of more than 350 civil society organizations in over 100 countries, committed to promoting the ratification, implementation and monitoring of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).  Within the UNCAC Coalition, other members include the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, Centre de Recherche sur l’Anti-corruption and Transparency International New Zealand among others. The entry of Fundación Multitudes in November 2021 to the UNCAC Coalition is of great precedent since it becomes the first and only member from Chile.

The UNCAC Coalition is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and is active in more than 100 countries, internationally, regionally and nationally. Member organizations work together in the areas of anti-corruption, human rights, labor rights, governance, economic development, environment and private sector accountability. Like the other members, our Foundation strengthens participation, contributes to the UNCAC review process by promoting measures to support international cooperation and technical assistance in efforts to prevent, mitigate, investigate and punish corruption and promote integrity in accountability and proper management of public affairs and public assets, among others.

Fundación Multitudes firmly believes that it is essential to deploy anti-corruption efforts and work on local transparency in each country to facilitate democracy. This not only by governments, but also by civil society, the private sector and citizens in general. Therefore, we promote open, inclusive and transparent government in conjunction with UNCAC Coalition through collaborative ties that strengthen national and regional advocacy actions and sanction corruption in all its forms, from municipal management to the highest level of national government. Indeed, coordinated global action by a broad spectrum of civil society groups is a key strategy for promoting compliance with the UN Convention against Corruption.

Our participation in this international platform is important to continue advancing the Foundation’s mission to close the gap between citizens and public authorities by collaborating in anti-corruption efforts in Latin America and the world.
