Let’s celebrate International Democracy Day together! Join us on Friday, September 20th, at “The Impact of Gender Disinformation on Democracy”, an online panel organized by Fundación Multitudes with the support of the Global Democracy Coalition.

The panel provides an opportunity to explore and discuss the impact of disinformation on youth and women’s participation, the state of democracy, and the role of civil society. It will also serve as a networking platform, allowing participants to connect, share ideas, and build collaborations.

To ensure an engaging discussion, we have four outstanding speakers:

  •  Samara Castro: is a lawyer specializing in Electoral and Political Parties Law, Digital Law, and Privacy and Data Protection. She currently serves as Vice President of the Data Protection and Privacy Commission of the OAB-RJ and as a member of the Electoral Law Commission of the Brazilian Academy of Electoral and Political Law (ABRADEP). Samara has been involved in coordinating some of the major disinformation cases in Brazil.
  • Kristina Wilfore: is an experienced international development and elections specialist who has worked in more than 30 countries to build more inclusive and responsive democratic movements. She is Reset’s Director of Innovation and Global Projects, and in 2021 she co-founded #ShePersisted, an initiative to ensure that digital harms against women leaders are recognized and addressed as threats to national security and the human rights system.
  • Kourtney Pompi: is Counterpart’s Senior Director of Governance and Co-Chair of the Society for International Development’s Democracy, Rights, and Governance Workgroup. She has significant experience in program management and design, with technical skills in the following areas: citizen engagement, electoral participation, community empowerment, peacebuilding, social cohesion, thinking and working politically, and inclusive development programming.
  • Marcela Ríos: is the Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). She was Chile’s Minister of Justice and Human Rights between March 2022 and January 2023. During her tenure, she focused on strengthening access to justice, the justice and childhood agenda, and the promotion of human rights and the reparation of victims of human rights violations.

The panel will be moderated by Jessica Hendrick. Jessica is the Communications Coordinator at the Apolitical Foundation, where she helps advance the mission of restoring hope in political leadership. She previously worked in public affairs roles with various U.S. Government agencies.

The panel will be held online, on Friday, September 20th, from 10 to 11 AM (ET). Please note that the panel will be conducted in English, and no translation services will be available.
